OUR FOCUS
Curiosity and imagination are where learning begins. Preschoolers are movers and we channel their energy and excitement into meaningful early education learning experiences. As children’s mobility grows, we give them plenty of room to move and discover. We also guide them toward developing new physical skills and achieving emerging milestones.
St. Joseph Academy’s well-balanced toddler program helps to boost children’s confidence as they examine the world around them through hands-on learning activities. Through a combination of quality care giving and age-appropriate learning opportunities, we’ll help your toddler discover themselves and the world around them. Our classrooms and curriculum have been carefully designed to create the best environment to help them succeed and begin gradually transitioning into more structured classrooms.
Our toddler program focuses on self-soothing and self-regulation techniques, promoting independence, motor-skill development, and coordination. Our daily schedule provides flexibility and consistency, as well as a good mix of physical play, social and emotional development and communication.
CORE PROGRAM COMPONENTS
SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
At this age, a child’s social-emotional skills are still maturing. Developing the impulse control to consistently share, take turns and express negative emotions appropriately take time. At SJA, our teachers are proactive and patient in helping the child’s social-emotional maturity. The curriculum our teacher implement in the classroom are fostering strong emotional development while creating more peaceful, caring classrooms.
PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Young children learn through movement, so it is critical for them to have daily physical activity. Our teachers provide children with opportunities for free movement, while engaging children in both planned and free indoor and outdoor motor play.
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
A child at this age is now able to focus their attention more accurately and is less influenced by distractions. The intensity of questions increase as your child develops a strong curiosity for the world around them. By this stage, your child will have increased memory skills which counts for a big part of their learning. Our teachers provide an environment in which the children are allowed to play, which supports the child’s ability to think, understand, communicate, remember, imagine and work out what might happen next.
LITERACY AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
Vocabulary expands from a few hundred words to a few thousand and word comprehension takes off during the preschool years. Our preschool programs and curriculum provide children with opportunities to integrate listening, speaking, early reading and writing into daily activities.
