FAQ’s – Frequently Asked Questions
What is an in-school clinic?
The SSCHC in-school clinic offers quality medical health care at school beyond what school staff can do. The SSCHC provider uses a video visit or in-person office visit to assess the student on the campus. The SSCHC provider will see the child, diagnose, and prescribe medication if needed. This is the same care your child would receive at the main Sixteenth Street clinic locations, made more convenient for parents at the school campus.
What kind of conditions are treated?
The provider can see your child for sick visits, well child visits, sports physicals, and vaccines (shots).
The provider can provide diagnosis and treatment for common illnesses such as: sore throat, earache, cough, asthma, allergies, pink eye, rashes, warts, lice, dizziness, stomachache nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, diabetes, headache, injuries, and behavior concerns.
How does the program work?
Step 1: Parents or guardians call 414-897-5600 to schedule appointment with the in-school clinic provider.
- OR The school staff may refer to the in-school clinic provider to schedule an appointment.
Step 2: Clinic staff will contact the parent or guardian for consent and schedule an appointment for student to be seen at the in-school clinic.
Step 3: Student will be seen by clinic provider for appointment. Parents are welcome to accompany student in-person or by video to appointment. Parent may also give permission for student to be seen without parent present.
Step 4: After the visit, the in-school clinic provider will update parents with treatment plan with a phone call and/or a paper visit summary. If a prescription medication is needed, the prescription will be sent to the preferred local pharmacy.
Does insurance cover the cost of the in-school clinic?
Insurance plans are billed, and copays and deductibles apply. WI Medicaid covers the visits. Other insurance company coverage varies.
No insurance? No problem! SSCHC does have a discount program option and no student will be turned away for inability to pay.
What do I need to do for my child to receive health care services at SSCHC In-School Clinic?
In order for a student to receive full health care services, a parent or guardian must fill out and sign the “SSCHC Registration and Consent Forms” which are available at the secretary/receptionist offices of each school.
What if my child needs services and I did not sign the consent forms?
If a student seeking care does not have a SSCHC Consent Form on file, SSCHC staff will call the student’s parent or guardian, a parent can come to school, fill out and sign the written consent form. On subsequent visits, that signed SSCHC Consent Form is in effect and the SSCHC clinical team can see the student and provide verbal and/or written updates to the parent(s).
