St. Joseph Academy teachers work extra-hard to spark a love of reading with our students!
We read together in the classroom every day, but we also like to find special ways to talk about words. Each year on March 2, the school has a party to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday! He would be 112 this year, so teachers had lots of fun things going on around our school.
Special Visitors Read Dr. Seuss with Us
We had 3 special guests visit St. Joseph Academy to read to our students! Alderman Michael Murphy read What Pet Should I Get, the most recent addition to our Dr. Seuss library. Sr. Rosita and Sr. Suzanne, two wonderful Felician sisters from Chicago, stepped into each classroom to read Dr. Seuss classics like The Cat in the Hat Comes Back and Green Eggs and Ham.
Crazy Hats & Crazy Snacks
In order for students to want to be strong readers, the experience of reading absolutely has to be fun. Many of the students got to wear Dr. Seuss outfits – like red-and-white Cat in the Hat hats and Thing 1, Thing 2 t-shirts – and so did our teachers! We even served real green eggs and ham as a snack in our Early Childhood Education Center…
Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!
