Sixteen second grade students along with their teacher, Ms. Carmen Adams, and several chaperones from St. Joseph Academy, Milwaukee, WI visited with the Veterans at Union Grove, WI on Nov. 16th. Twice before, the Vets came to visit with students in their classroom at St. Joseph Academy. Now it was time for the students to see where their “soldier friends” make their home. Upon arriving at the complex, the children thanked and hugged the Veterans in the assisted living facility for their service and then recited the “Pledge of Allegiance” in their honor. Next, Veteran Jim read to all present, the true story of “Nubs” – a mutt, a marine (Marine Major Brian Dennis) and a miracle. The students and the Veterans next enjoyed working on “arts and crafts” together. After a lunch of pizza and root beer, the youngsters toured the facility, and then boarded the bus to ride back to school. All agreed that this should become an annual field trip!
