SJA WOMEN'S CLUB
The history of St. Joseph Women’s Club - formerly the Ladies Aid Society - begins over a century ago on in May 1907, predating St. Joseph’s itself. Shortly after the groundbreaking for what was to be the St. Joseph’s Orphanage building, a group of women met and formed an organization whose mission would be to help foster the care and upbringing of orphans and neglected children. Their goal was not only to feed and educate the children of the orphanage, but help bring them up in a religious and welcoming atmosphere. This goal could only to be reached if funds could be raised, and plans were made to gather these much-needed funds for classroom needs through a variety of charity events.
Since that 1907 month of May, the St. Joseph Women’s Club has stayed firm in its commitment to bringing up children in a welcoming, religious, and home-like atmosphere. The group continues to hold fundraising events to raise money for the Early Childhood Education Center of St. Joseph, an integral part of St. Joseph Academy.
The Club meets monthly, usually the 2nd Tuesday of the months of April through June and September-December at 6:30 p.m. in the Academy. Meetings always begin and end with prayer. Current meeting topics include the Annual Fall Luncheon, Masses offered for deceased members, Christmas gatherings, Lenten Evening of Reflection, May Tea or even picnic planning.
